India, April 23 -- The Centre is doubling down on artificial intelligence (AI) regulation as rapid advances in the technology raise fresh concerns around cybersecurity, deepfakes, and risks to critical sectors.
According to a Mint report, a six-member Technology and Policy Expert Committee (TPEC), constituted on April 13, is preparing fresh guidelines that could move India away from its current "light-touch" AI governance framework.
Alongside this, a 10-member inter-ministerial AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG), which was also notified on the same day, will serve as India's central institutional mechanism for AI governance policy development and coordination.
