India, Feb. 25 -- The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has banned five OTT platforms - MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu - for allegedly streaming obscene content.

The five platforms allegedly hosted indecent content in violation of obscenity laws, news agency ANI reported, citing government sources.

As per the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media, Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and the IT Act, the government is authorised to block access to any online service provider for various reasons relating to harmful content. Under these regulations, intermediaries that fail to comply with their legal obligations lose their exemption from liability for third-party content.
