Woman raped and killed in Bhojpur, main accused held
ARA, Sept. 16 -- A mentally challenged woman was raped and murdered under the jurisdiction of Garhani police station of Bhojpur district on Monday, police said.
Police further said that her body was recovered in the morning near the banks of Jaitpur canal on the Bagwan-Dhamaniya road. The deceased woman is said to be 45 years old, but her identity is yet to be ascertainted.
Based on technical investigation, police have arrested the main accused in the rape and murder case.
He has been identified as Ram Dular Ram, alias Prabhas, son of Lal Mohan Ram, a resident of Bagwan village under Garhani police station area.
He confessed to the crime during police interrogation, and was later sent to jail.
Cyber deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Roshan Kumar confirmed the incident.
Upon receiving information, station house officer Kamaljeet immediately rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation, and later launched an investigation.
Later, a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team reached the spot to gather evidence.
It was also discovered that the woman was mentally unstable and had been living at a 'samosa' shop in Bagwan market for three months.
A medical board was formed and a post-mortem was conducted.
CCTV footage was examined during the investigation, which showed a young man assaulting the woman on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, the incident has created a fear among residents in the nearby areas....
