PURNEA, July 7 -- A 41-year-old nutrition coach died and her daughter sustained serious injuries after a speeding car struck them and dragged them for about 200 metres on Dhamdaha-Purnea Road near Mirganj in Purnea district on Monday, police said. "A tree fell on the road, so commuters were driving on a muddy path next to it. Kaviya Kumari and Shivani (18) were returning home after a health check-up when their scooty skidded on that mud, causing them to fall. Soon, a speeding car ran them over and dragged the two for 200 metres," an officer said. Locals informed police and the two were taken to a government medical college and hospital in Purnea where doctors declared the woman dead while her daughter who survived is undergoing treatment in the critical care unit. Police later sent the victim's body for a post-mortem examination. SHO Roshan Kumar told HT, "We have started a probe with traffic police and soon the car and the driver will be arrested. We are trying to record the statement of the injured and soon a case will also be lodged. CCTV footage is being reviewed to ascertain the identity of the car and the accused driver."...
