Wanted criminal shot in encounter
PATNA, May 31 -- A criminal wanted in several cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, dacoity and the Arms Act at multiple police stations was injured in an exchange of fire with the police under Town police station area in Bihar's Gopalganj district on Saturday, officers said.
Police also seized an illegal country-made pistol from the scene. Akash Kumar Singh, carrying a reward of Rs.50,000 on his head, sustained bullet injuries on both legs and was admitted to Sadar Hospital in Gopalganj. After primary treatment, he was referred to Patna for advanced care.
"Akash was allegedly leading a gang and used to commit crimes and hide in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharastra, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. Acting on a tip-off, police raided Bhiwari in Rajasthan and arrested Akash and brought him to Gopalganj," an officer said.
"During questioning, Akash disclosed that a weapon was concealed near the Thawe-Banjari bypass. When a team took him to the location for recovery, he retrieved the firearm and opened fire on the personnel to escape. He was injured in retaliation," said Gopalganj SP Vinay Tiwary.
