Vande Bharat Express stranded for 5 hours due to engine glitch
SASARAM, June 21 -- The Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express broke down in Bihar's Rohtas district on Friday evening, leaving passengers stranded for nearly five hours on the DDU-Gaya rail section.
Train No. 20888, travelling from Varanasi to Ranchi, was running on its scheduled route when a technical fault developed in the engine between Shivsagar and Kumhau stations. The loco pilot halted the train at 5:42 pm and informed railway officials about the problem, officials said.
Following the incident, a large number of residents from nearby Barela, Samhuta and Prayagpur villages gathered at the spot. Shivsagar SHO Ritesh Kumar Singh and Sasaram RPF Inspector Rajiv Kumar also reached the site with police personnel and remained deployed to ensure the safety of passengers.
It took nearly two hours for the railway's technical team to reach the location. As darkness set in, the team carried out inspections using mobile phone torches.
However, the engineers were unable to identify the exact cause of the fault.
Subsequently, a replacement engine was brought to the site and attached to the train. The Vande Bharat Express finally resumed its journey at 10:04 pm, the RPF inspector said.
Most passengers remained confined inside the train as it stood stranded in the remote area. With limited access to food and drinking water, many were forced to endure considerable hardship during the prolonged delay....
