Ukrainian woman held in bid to cross border
BETTIAH, July 8 -- A 37-year-old Ukrainian woman was arrested at Harpur border in border town Raxaul of Bihar's East Champaran district while trying to cross the border from the Indian territory into Nepal without valid visa and passport documents, police said on Tuesday.
She had reportedly being staying illegally in India for long.
Harpur SHO Kumari Priyanka said, "Police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officers interrogated to ascertain her identity, travel history and purpose of visiting India. She has been identified as Okzana Shevtzova, a resident of Ukraine."
Police seized a cellphone and Rs.7,330 from her possession.
In a written complaint to Harpur SHO, SSB sub-inspector Narayan Sidhu said the woman was intercepted near the Harpur border around 6.30 pm on Monday during a routine patrol.
During questioning, she allegedly failed to produce valid travel documents proving her lawful stay in India. She later showed electronic copies of her passport and visa, which, upon examination, were found to have expired in 2022.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS Act and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025 and the accused was sent to jail, police said....
