Rudrapur, Aug. 18 -- The Udham Singh Nagar administration has taken possession of the 1,914-acre land of Prag farm in Kichha after the high court dismissed the special plea by people who held its possession, an official said. "We took possession of the land on Saturday after the high court dismissed the special appeal of the party. However, a piece of land has been left as per the district magistrate's order. Ample police force was deployed while taking the land into possession," said Girish Chandra Tripathi, Tehsildar, Kichha. A press note released by the administration stated that the lease secretary of state in the British government had granted 5193-acre land in Kichha to Prag Narayan Agrawal, a resident of Aligarh for agriculture on a 99-year lease in 1933. The land was transferred to his nominees after his death in 1938. After independence, the government cancelled the lease in 1966 under Government Estate Contractor Abolition Act and took over the possession of the 1159-acre land.
