PURNEA, Aug. 2 -- A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Bihar Police arrested two suspected shooters from Guwahati on Saturday for shooting at Purnea district JD(U) leader Amarendra Kushwaha's son and brother-in-law. The two were shot on July 23 at Newalal Chowk under the jurisdiction of Maranga police station and survived the gunshot injuries. Amarendra Kushwaha is a former vice-president of the JD(U)'s Purnea unit. The SIT, led by sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Abhinav Parashar, confirmed the arrest and said that the two shooters were nabbed from a flat in Guwahati. "Out of the two, one has been identified as Deva, a professional shooter wanted in several serious cases," a police officer said. He added that the police secured a transit remand for both arrested shooters and are bringing them from Guwahati for further investigation. According to reports about the July 23 shooting, armed assailants opened fire on JD(U) leader's son Shubham Kushwaha and his maternal uncle Sagar Kushwaha at Newalal Chowk where the two had gone to have tea. They sustained multiple gunshot injuries and were rushed to a super specialty hospital in Purnea where they are still undergoing treatment. "The two are now out of danger and were in serious condition when brought to the hospital," the doctors told HT. Police registered an FIR against 12 persons based on the written complaint filed by Amarendra Kushwaha who blamed drug smugglers in the district behind the attack because he has been raising his voice on the issue.
