Two minor girls flee J'khand shelter home, no trace after 72 hrs
Jamshedpur, May 30 -- Two minor girls fled by jumping the walls of a Jharkhand government-aided girls' shelter home run by an NGO in Gamharia in Seraikela-Kharsawan district late Tuesday night and they could be traced even after 72 hours as police were still clueless, people aware of the matter said on Friday.
'Jan Sahbhagi Vikas Kendra' (JSBVK) - the NGO - runs the 'Vatsalya Valika Griha' girls' shelter home in Gamharia under the 'Mission Vatsalya Yojna.' It was inaugurated by Seraikela-Kharsawan deputy commissioner (DC) Nitish Kumar Singh on April 15, 2026.
"The agency running the home has failed to comply with the security parameters. It's a matter of serious concern that the two girls could not be traced after 72 hours. Hence, our topmost priority is to trace and rescue them back safely. Preliminary inquiry has found that the girls were not kept under adequate security monitoring. This is why they could get out of the home. In what circumstances they fled and why, and if there is any connivance or lapses will be known only after the girls are brought back safely," the DC told the media on Friday.
The administration installed CCTV cameras and posted a security guard at the home - being run in the Adivasi Girls' Hostel -- on Thursday.
"Two minor girl residents - aged 15 and 16 years - fled the JSBVK girls' shelter home late Tuesday night. We came to know about it after the district child protection officer (DCPO) lodged a complaint on Wednesday. Our investigation and searches are ongoing but there's no lead so far. Relevant people are being interrogated," Ram Chandra Rajak, Gamharia police station officer-in-charge, said.
Officials said the social welfare department had sought a report from the district administration and the latter had launched an inquiry under the district social welfare officer (DSWO).Satya Thakur. Thakur reached the shelter home around 12.00 PM on Thursday and conducted an inquiry after getting the main gate and all the other doors of the building closed. Even the gram pradhan and local journalists were not allowed inside.
Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Nidhi Dwivedi also visited Gamharia PS on Wednesday and believed to have enquired about the matter....
