two drown in ganga in patna; one body fished out, one missing
PATNA, Aug. 24 -- In two separate incidents, two young men drowned while bathing at Pathkari ghat and Khajekalan Ghat on Sunday. The body of one was fished out, while the search continued for the other.
Police said that Chhotu Kumar, a 32-year-old resident of Devi Stan Khajurbanna under the Sultanganj police station area, drowned while taking a dip in the river Ganga at Pathri Ghat in the Alamganj police station area. Upon receiving the news, a large number of local residents and family members rushed to the riverbank.
Ward 51 Councillor Jyoti Ranjan Das, alias Baiju Lal Das, also arrived at the scene and alerted the police and the SDRF, along with diver Ashish Kumar, launched a search operation in the river and recovered the young man's body.
At Khajekalan Ghat, local people informed the police that another man had drowned while bathing. Divers and the SDRF team spent hours searching for him, but till filing of this report, he was not found. He had come to Khajekalan Ghat to collect water from the Ganga, locals said.
The missing person has been identified as 35-year-old Shiv Shankar Das, a resident of the Mogalpura under Khajekalan police station limit....
