Two bank robbers involved in Odisha bank loot case held
PATNA, June 2 -- A joint team of Bihar STF and Aurangabad police arrested two bank robbers from Daudnagar locality on Monday in connection with the robbery at the Bank of Maharashtra branch at Barbil in Keonjhar (Odisha) that was committed on January 19, 2026.
The arrested accused have been identified as Akhilesh Rai and Jitendra Kumar. Police recovered looted 237gram gold ornaments, 4 kgs silver ornaments and a four-wheeler vehicle said to be used in crime.
Earlier, the Bihar STF had arrested Santosh Paswan alias Mamu (Vaishali) and Navin Kumar alias Navin Chandra of Kankarbagh, and handed them over to the Odisha police. The STF has seized 37.8 grams of gold and 11.85 gram silver ring from the accused.
The robbery took place on January 19, when miscreants looted gold ornaments weighing around 7.53 kilograms, valued at approximately Rs.5 crore, along with Rs.8 lakh in cash from the lockers of the bank. The accused had fled the scene of three motorcycles. A case was registered at the Barbil police station.
The Odisha police had arrested two other accused - Raja Kumar Singh, a native of Jamui district in Bihar residing at Chasnala in Sindri, and Kunal Raj Verma, a resident of Nirsa. They were arrested from Dhanbad. Director General (Operation) Kundan Krishnan said that a joint police team led by DSP Anand Kumar raided the hideouts of absconding bank robbers at Daudnagar police station area and arrested them with the help of human intelligence and photo date base....
