Train services on Patna-Gaya rail section disrupted after wire theft
PATNA, July 10 -- Train services on Patna-Gaya rail section, a vital transport link in Bihar, were disrupted for around three hours due to the theft of 100 metres of 25,000-volt overhead electrical (OHE) wire early on Thursday, officials said.
Police said that unidentified thieves cut and stole the wire which is a critical equipment for powering electric locomotives. The disruption forced Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) to suspend standard operations.
To manage the congestion and minimise impact on passenger schedules, officials implemented single-line working, allowing trains to pass through the area at a reduced frequency while repair teams worked to restore the power supply.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered the stolen copper-heavy electrical material from a canal near Madarpur locality soon after. Authorities have now launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
ECR chief public relation officer Saraswati Chandra said, "Thieves cut a 25,000-volt OHE wire at 3.05 am on Thursday between Jehanabad and Tehta stations in the Patna-Gaya rail section, disrupting train services for around three hours."
"Railway staff repaired the damaged wire and the section was declared fit for operations around 6.26 am," he added. Ganga Damodar Express, Hatia-Islampur Express, Palamu Express, Gaya-Patna MEMU train services were affected.
RPF inspector Pradip Yadav said that police scanned CCTV footage of the concerned area to identify the culprits and raids are being conducted to nab the suspects. "The accused will be booked under the Railway Act," he added....
