Traffic cop dead as sand-laden tractor crushes him in Rohtas
SASARAM, May 17 -- A traffic constable was killed after being crushed by a sand-laden tractor at SP Jain turning in Sasaram town on Saturday. The constable was trying to stop the tractor from entering into the No Entry Zone when the driver speed up the vehicle and ran over him, police said.
Superintendent of police (SP) Raushan Kumar said that the critically injured constable Mukesh Kumar was rushed to the sadar hospital where doctors referred him to a higher centre. He was taken to BHU Trauma Centre at Varanasi under supervision of a DSP rank officer but he died during treatment.
"To ensure the smooth flow of traffic within Sasaram municipal area, the movement of heavy vehicles is prohibited from 7 am to 9 pm. To enforce this prohibition order, traffic personnel have been deployed at the SP Jain intersection," the SP said.
"Upon being chased by the police and public, the driver abandoned the tractor and fled the scene. The police have seized the tractor and are currently searching for the vehicle's owner and driver, against whom strict legal action will be taken. The family members of the deceased constable have been informed, and his body is being transported from Varanasi to Sasaram," Raushan added....
