PATNA, May 12 -- The probe into the sensational murder of West Bengal chief minister Subhendu Adhikari's personal assistant (PA) Chandranath Rath has reached Bihar. The West Bengal STF team with the assistance of Bihar STF conducted raids in three police station areas of Buxar to investigate the high-profile case. According to police, the STF has arrested three persons, including notorious criminal Vishal Srivastava and his two aides Mayank Mishra and Vicky Maurya from Buxar and took them to West Bengal on transit remand. A 2018 model Nissan Micra vehicle having fake registration number, which overtook the PA's car to stop it just before the murder, was taken to Howrah by Buxar youths--Mayank and Vicky-- via Jharkhand, said a police officer. Vishal had more than 22 criminal cases against him in Buxar alone, including murder, robbery and those under the Arms Act, the officer added. Investigation revealed that Mayank and Vicky reached West Bengal around 7 pm on May 6, the day of murder. "Both later returned to Buxar the very next day by train. The two youths were hired by some persons in lieu of money for transporting the vehicle, which was used for obstruct the car of Chandranath Rath before the attack," said a police officer. During investigation, police found that the car had blocked Rath's SUV and at the same time, two motorcycles stopped on either side of the vehicle and the riders opened fire at Rath and his driver. However, while verifying ownership details of the seized vehicles, investigators found the registration numbers had been forged. "One of the arrested persons from Bihar whose mobile and UPI numbers were used to pay toll digitally instead of using cash or FASTag, and other vehicle related transactions between Dhanbad and Howrah was found during investigation. Srivastava provided them shelter after they came from West Bengal," said an official familiar with the matter. The police further said during their interrogation both revealed the name of several persons who had hired them, arranged the and ordered them to deliver it to Howrah. STF was searching for more persons of Bihar involved in providing logistic support. Police said a crucial lead emerged from UPI transaction made at Bally toll plaza in Howrah. CCTV footage from the toll plaza captured images of the vehicle and its occupants, providing investigators with a key breakthrough in the case. Buxar SP Subham Arya confirmed that the West Bengal police team carried out raids in Buxar, detained some suspects and brought took for interrogation. Chandranath Rath was on his way home when he was shot dead at point-blank range on May 6, between 10 and 10:10 pm inside his car near Doharia crossing in Madhyamgram of North 24 Parganas district.
