Thar driver who attempted to run over police driver arrested
RANCHI, July 16 -- Police arrested Vishram Oraon for attempting to run over a Lalpur Police Station driver with a Mahindra Thar during a vehicle check near Morhabadi ground.
The accused struck police driver Rajesh Singh, who sustained head and leg injuries, prompting a swift investigation led by city police officials.
A police official at Lalpur police station informed about the arrest saying police got the clue with the help of CCTV footage and human intelligence.
"Oraon is a resident of Bariatu. He was arrested this morning, and his vehicle was seized," the police official said.
Lalpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Rupesh Kumar Singh confirmed the arrest. "There was an old case against the Thar driver. He got terrified anticipating his arrest after police asked him to stop during a routine check. In order to escape he hit the police driver," Singh said. Singh, however, expressed his inability to share Oraon's old case details.
On Tuesday a Lalpur police patrolling team was conducting routine vehicle checks near Park Prime Hotel by the Morhabadi ground in Ranchi. Police spotted a suspicious Mahindra Thar with a broken window, mud on the number plate and black film on the windscreen.
When asked to stop, the driver accelerated directly toward the police team to escape. Police driver Rajesh Singh was struck by the vehicle, which ran over his leg and caused severe head injuries. He received treatment at Sadar Hospital....
