PATNA, May 25 -- Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Sunday slammed chief minister Samrat Choudhary over the latter's statement that artificial intelligence tools can be useful to identify those wearing "green gamchas" (cotton towels). The CM had made the statement during the Bihar AI Summit 2026 in Patna on Saturday. "What kind of a statement is this? I feel like laughing at their mentality. Why is the CM making statements about the colour of gamchas one is wearing," Yadav questioned, adding that Choudhary's statements are "ludicrous" and "divisive". Meanwhile, BJP state spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel said that CM's statement referred to the RJD rule in mid-90s and early 2000 when people wearing green gamchas flaunted it as a "power symbol" to commit offences under political patronage. "Bihar was defamed during the 90s by such people who flaunted green gamchas to show their political alignment with the then ruling party. Green had become a symbol of having state patronage by many mischief mongers," he said. On Saturday, during an AI summit in Patna, Choudhary had said that AI tools can be helpful in catching criminals and had remarked that if such tools are given commands to identify those wearing 'green gamchas', it would do so immediately. Though the chief minister clarified that he was not speaking about any particular individual or any section of people, the statement did not go well with top leaders of the RJD. Many party insiders felt the remark was aimed at RJD workers. The leader of the Opposition has already stepped up its attack against the state government, accusing it of targeting via encounters criminals and history sheeters from a particular caste group, which is more aligned with the RJD. Yadav also accused the state of neglecting vulnerable groups while pointing to delayed welfare disbursements for women and senior citizens. He criticised the delay of the second installment to women under Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. "The government has no money to do anything, the treasury is empty. The second installment promised to women. When will it be given? When will pensions be provided? You have deceived the people," the RJD working president said....
