PATNA, Sept. 2 -- Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Tuesday demanded a hike in quota in Bihar as per the caste data and dismissed the remarks of Union ministers Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi as mere "shadow boxing". "These are the people who have taken maximum advantage of quota by contesting reserved seats and becoming ministers, but are dancing to the tunes of the RSS to dilute quota," he said, while talking to media persons. Manjhi and his son Santosh Kumar Suman have been demanding a review and sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) quotas to help the most marginalised, but Chirag has opposed it. Bihar SC/ST welfare minister Lakhendra Paswan also joined the hotting up Dalit politics, saying the two leaders were doing it for their own interest and oneupmanship. "Both are ministers in the Union Cabinet and well aware that as long as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is there, nobody could touch reservation," he added. Tejashwi said that the NDA leaders were talking in different tunes about reservation despite remaining with the BJP, which was strange. "The only solution to all the problems is an increase in quota. It was increased when we were in the government, but as expected it did not sustain as soon as the BJP came in power. Despite our demand, the law was not put in the ninth schedule of the Indian Constitution to protect it from judicial review," he added. Tejashwi said that even the existing quota was not benefiting the targeted groups, as reflected through data. "There are very few vice-chancellors, judges, or secretaries in the government of India from SC/ST/OBC," he added. He said that there were leaders like Chirag Paswan. Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha benefited from quota to field family members from reserved seats. "Kushwaha ji made his son the minister without being a member of any House, and next time his daughter-in-law may also contest," he added. Reservation has always been a sensitive issue in Bihar and it was visible in the 2015 Assembly election in Bihar when the BJP was confined to just 54 seats against the united Opposition comprising both RJD and the JD(U). Tejashwi also attacked Bihar minister Lakhendra Paswan for allegedly getting a YouTuber Kundan Kumar, who sat next to him, manhandled in police custody at night and trying to implicate him in a false case. Kundan also narrated the story of his torture in police custody without telling him about his fault. "We demand action against the police officers involved in it, else we will launch agitation in Vaishali. The instances of police highhandedness are growing. Kundan has also been raising road issues in the area, but the police have started behaving like criminals in the NDA government in Bihar," he said. He said that nothing better could be expected from the police when Samrat Choudhary, who faced murder cases, could become the CM. "Samrat Choudhary is trying to make Bihar a police state, but we will not let it happen," he added....
