Tainted SDPO removed in Bihar after DA case
PATNA, April 3 -- Bihar police headquarters (PHQ) late on Wednesday removed the Kishanganj Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO-1) Gautam Kumar from his post after the EOU registered an FIR related to disproportionate assets worthRs.1.94 crore.
An order has been issued in this regard by the IG Headquarters Manoj Kumar. In the place of Kumar, SDPO-II Mangalesh Kumar Singh has also been given the charge of SDPO-I.
The EOU during raids/searches against the Kumar's premises exposed illegal assets worth several crores.
The EOU found a tea garden in Siliguri, flats in Noida and Gurgaon, and more than 25 land plots which were registered in the names of his wife Poonam Devi and his woman friend Shagufta Shameem. From the residence of Shagufta, seven land-related documents valued at nearly RRs.60 lakh were recovered.
A four-storey house spread across 3,600 square feet in Purnea, estimated to be worth around Rs.2.5 crore, was among the major recoveries. Luxury watches and high-end vehicles including a Creta and a Thar were seized. Documents related to the setting up of a nursing home in Patna were also found during the searches.
Papers indicating insurance investments and several other financial documents were also recovered from various locations.
The SDPO joined the Bihar Police as a sub-inspector in the 1994 batch. His first posting as a trainee officer in 1996 was in Kishanganj, where he also completed his probation. After serving in other districts, he returned to Kishanganj in 2012-13 as a mobile police officer. He later promoted to the rank of inspector and then DSP. In 2023, he once again took charge as SDPO of the district. A significant part of his service has been spent in the Seemanchal region covering Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea and Katihar.
Meanwhile, EOU has sent a three members special team at Seemanchal to investigate the illegal properties found in the raids at Gautam's premises. The three-member team led by EOU's Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) will verify the illegal properties found from Gautam's hideouts in Purnia along with Katihar and Kishanganj. Investigation revealed that an legislator of ruling party is also his business partner and he is protecting him.
The EOU have evidence about the partnership between the two. The special team will also probe Gautam's links with coal, liquor, drugs, animal smugglers, etc. The role of the SDPO has also been found to be suspicious in the case of illegal passing vehicles of smugglers from the Dalkola checkpoint....
