Patna, July 29 -- The state government's decision to withdraw 64 FIRs against student protesters who were named in the cases and arrested has not only come as a relief to their parents, they might not face problems in future with regard to police verification for passports, issuance of character certificates, driving license or other documents, officials said. Officials in the home department said that there are clear instructions that in all cases registered before 6pm on July 26 related to student protests, no action, directly or indirectly, will be taken against such individuals in future as well. One senior official clarified that 'once the FIRs are withdrawn, there is no question of taking any coercive action against those whose names were in the cases.' "We are withdrawing the FIRs, so there will be no action against those named in those FIRs. It is unlikely they will have any police records related to student protest cases. But if anybody has a criminal history, the cases will continue as per law," said a senior official seeking anonymity.
