Star-studded extravaganza, tight vigilance for Patna Durga Puja
PATNA, Oct. 11 -- As the resonant rhythm of the dhak is set to announce the arrival of the grand festive season, Patna has transformed into a vibrant confluence of spiritual devotion, cultural splendour, and unprecedented civic vigilance.
To ensure that Durga Puja unfold in an atmosphere of enduring peace, communal harmony, and public safety, the district administration has rolled out a sweeping, multi-tiered security blueprint across every corner of the city.
Emphasising the sheer magnitude of citizen participation expected at pandals and public squares, district magistrate, Patna, Kundan Kumar placed administrative, civil, and police machineries on high alert. The District Magistrate said, "This is the beginning of the festive season. Therefore, monitoring law and order is extremely crucial."
Underscoring that maintaining law and order remains the administration's non-negotiable priority, the DM issued a stern warning against anti-social elements attempting to foment discord, noting that any provocation will invite swift and uncompromising legal action.
Field officials have been directed to maintain relentless ground-level vigil, with round-the-clock surveillance concentrated around sensitive pockets and prominent high-footfall shrines.
A foundational element of this year's administrative master plan is structured community dialogue combined with airtight regulatory compliance. Station House Officers and Block Development Officers have been mandated to convene peace committee meetings across their jurisdictions immediately, building bridges between local communities and puja committees to resolve logistical bottlenecks before they surface.
Furthermore, every puja pandal is required to secure an official operating license. In an uncommon move aimed at zero ambiguity, authorities have directed that license conditions be read aloud to organizers, ensuring life-safety norms and legal guidelines are understood and executed in letter and spirit.
Organizers must also furnish verified identification records of designated procession leaders steering idol immersion groups.
Public safety inside and around the monumental temporary structures has been brought under stringent scrutiny. Prominent pandals across the city must clear rigorous fire safety audits, install extensive CCTV camera networks, and adhere to structural integrity and electrical wiring standards.
To prevent stampedes and chaos, venues must feature segregated, fortified barricaded lines for men and women, clearly marked entry and egress points, and high-illumination lighting systems that ensure unhindered crowd movement through peak evening hours.
The administration's attention extends equally to the water bodies earmarked for idol immersions. Artificial ponds and designated ghats along the Ganga are being fortified with heavy-duty barricades, high-powered floodlights, stationed rescue divers, and swift-action disaster response teams.
Drone-assisted aerial videography will track procession corridors to ensure designated routes and timelines are strictly respected. The administration has firmly prohibited provocative songs, objectionable sloganeering, the brandishing of weapons, and contentious tableaux.
Loudspeaker usage has been restricted strictly under license, enforced by a zero-tolerance blanket ban between 10 pm and 6am. Simultaneously, specialized cyber monitoring teams are scouring social media feeds around the clock to detect and dismantle communal misinformation or hate speech before it spreads.
Civic dignity and ground-level protection round out the operational plan. The Patna Municipal Corporation, alongside urban local bodies, has launched comprehensive sanitation and waste-clearing drives along major arterial routes, pandal premises, and immersion ghats.
Addressing public harassment, the district magistrate has explicitly banned forced donation collection under the guise of festive subscriptions, tasking local police stations with acting immediately on extortion plaints.
Reinforcing these civil safeguards, Patna SSP Kartikey Sharma has directed the police force to maximise street visibility through tactical deployments at vulnerable crossroads, frequent personnel briefings, and surprise audits of control rooms.
Adding an enchanting cultural crescendo to this secure backdrop, Gandhi Maidan is set to come alive with the Dussehra Mahotsav 2026 from October 11 to 14. Jointly hosted by the Patna Divisional Commissioner's Office, Shri Krishna Smarak Vikas Samiti, and the state Art and Culture Department, the four-day cultural extravaganza will run daily from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
The festival opens on October 11 with a high-voltage musical performance by celebrated playback singer Pawandeep Rajan, followed by a rib-tickling comedy set by comedian BIP on October 12. Melodic evenings continue on October 13 with soulful recitals by vocalists Krithika Rai and Saumya Mishra, culminating on October 14 with a grand musical finale headlined by Bhavya Pandit alongside an energetic community Dandiya celebration, sealing the capital's festive calendar with unmatched joy and unity....
