Haldwani, Sept. 14 -- Fifteen stone crushers and four resorts in Kumaon have been found violating environmental norms, officials aware of the pollution control board said on Saturday. The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) has issued notices to all concerned units seeking explanations, with punitive action to follow if replies are unsatisfactory. Regional Pollution Officer Anurag Negi said, "Complaints of air pollution from stone crushers in Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Champawat districts were received about two and a half months ago. A team inspected 21 crushers and collected air samples from nearby areas. Field inspections revealed irregularities at two crushers in Champawat, six in Nainital, and seven in Pithoragarh." Negi added, "The team found that green belts were not developed around the crushers, dust-suppression sprinklers were missing, and many units lacked boundary walls as required. Similarly, four resorts near Corbett National Park lacked proper sewerage systems." "Notices have been issued to all violators with instructions to comply with pollution-control norms," he said....
