Ranchi, Aug. 12 -- Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren said on Tuesday that the saffron party tried to hijack the students' protest to regain lost political ground. He also underlined that the state government had decided to get all exams conducted by the private agency TDPL probed, besides moving forward with reforms that went even beyond the students' demands. Speaking on the issue of the students' protest amidst a ruckus by the Opposition and treasury bench in the Jharkhand Assembly on Tuesday, the CM said, "The parasitic BJP attempted to turn the youth movement into its own political platform. This entire web of intrigue has been spun by the opposition. By conspiring through the Lucknow-based TDPL company and forging connections with people from UP and Bihar, the Opposition is working to mislead the state's youth." TSR Data Processing Pvt Ltd (TDPL), a Lucknow-based firm, was hired by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to conduct the civil services exam. The agency, blacklisted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) last year, and by the UP government, is currently at the centre of a political storm in the state, with allegations that it was running a syndicate to sell civil services seats in collusion with JPSC officials. To date, 19 people, including the company directors, senior executives, and senior JPSC officials, have been arrested by the CID of Jharkhand Police. The job aspirants, however, have been holding a sit-in protest that entered its 18th day on Tuesday, demanding a CBI probe and the cancellation of numerous examinations conducted by the TDPL. Speaking on action regarding the students' demands, the CM said, "The examinations for the 11th to 13th batches, JPSC, the 2023 and 2024 backlog vacancies, and the APP posts have all been conducted through due legal process. Meanwhile, the state government is prepared to have all examinations conducted by TDPL investigated, and such an inquiry is already underway. Even the protesting students have acknowledged that the government has accepted the majority of their demands regarding reforms. The state government would proceed with even better reforms. Consultations with prestigious institutions like IIT, IIM, and XLRI will be held to determine how future examinations can be conducted with greater transparency and efficiency," Soren said. Reacting to the remark, Jharkhand BJP general secretary Amar Kumar Bauri said the chief minister should come clean on who awarded the contract to TDPL in Jharkhand "In the House, he claimed that TDPL is a Lucknow-based company and is thus weaving a "web" from there to sell jobs in Jharkhand. However, he failed to mention who awarded the contract in Jharkhand to TDPL, a company blacklisted in Uttar Pradesh He should clarify whose government provided it with "son-in-law-like" protection. The chief minister also criticized BJP members for waving money in the House, referencing BJP MLA CP Singh, and remarked that the opposition has nothing left now. "They are a trading community with bundles of cash in their pockets. The opposition has not even spared temples; this is the source of the funds they intend to use to buy democracy," said Soren, urging the Speaker to get the pockets of every opposition member checked.
