Slain gangster's wife killed by lover: Cops
SASARAM, July 5 -- Rohtas police claimed on Saturday to have solved the murder of Rani Khatoon, wife of slain gangster Kallu Khan, who was killed in a political rivalry in November 2021.
According to police, Rani was killed over an illicit relationship and blackmail. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with her killing and the car and mobile used in the crime have been recovered.
Rani was an important witness in the case related to her late husband's murder and she was to depose before the court on July 7.
On June 29, Farhan Khan, her son, had registered a case with Dalmianagar police station regarding kidnapping of his mother. Because the woman was a key witness in a murder case, Rohtas SP Raushan Kumar formed an SIT under Dehri SDPO Gaurav Yadav and Dalmianagar SHO Rajiv Ranjan Rai, assisted by the District Intelligence Unit.
On Friday, the SIT received information that the unidentified body of a woman had been recovered from a water body near Balua village under the Barun police station area of adjacent Aurangabad district. The body was later identified as that of Rani Khatoon, the SP said.
Based on CCTV footage from the vicinity, mobile location data, scientific evidence, and inquiries with locals, the police detained Vikas Kumar of Makrain village. During interrogation, he confessed to the entire murder plot.
He revealed that Rani Khatoon had left her husband's village Kaithi in Shivsagar block after his murder in 2022 and settled at her maternal place in Makrain, Dalmiangar, with her two children. Vikas had been in a romantic relationship with Rani for nearly two years. He told the police that the deceased possessed his "private photographs" and was using them to blackmail him.
In order to get rid of her, Vikas hatched the murder plot with his friend Avinash Kumar alias Bittu of Dalmianagar. The duo took Rani Khatoon in a Swift car to a secluded spot in Aurangabad. There, they strangled her to death using her own scarf and dumped the body into a canal to destroy the evidence.
"Thanks to scientific investigation, technical evidence, and swift action, the police successfully solved the murder case in a short span of time. The team did an excellent job and will be suitably rewarded," the SP said....
