Patna, Aug. 4 -- The wife of executive officer (EO) of Dehri-Dalmianagar Municipal Council who was allegedly killed by his driver over 'denial of leaves', Babita Kumari, on Monday demanded the 'strictest possible' punishment for those behind the crime. Two days after Vimal Kumar was beaten to death under the Barun police station area of Aurangabad, while returning to Patna from Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas, she appeared convinced that police investigation would nail down the culprits. However, Babita appeared worried about the challenge the incident exposed her-to support her family with two children. "I urge the government to offer me a gazetted rank job so that I could raise my children properly. How will they live?" She also sought a compensation of over Rs.5 crore to ensure the upkeep of her family in absence of her husband. "I am now facing the daunting task of raising our kids alone," she said. Babita's demand came at a time when Vimal's enraged colleagues staged a protest in the state capital and blamed the administration for lack of proper security. Earlier, she had alleged Dehri legislator (Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Sonu Singh) was behind the 'murder' of her husband. The incident triggered yet another war of words in Bihar on Monday with the opposition, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in particular, demanding an encounter of Sonu Singh. "When will the MLA concerned be encountered?" asked leader of opposition in the legislative assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, after meeting the kin of the deceased EO. The RJD leader demanded a CBI enquiry into the murder and accused the state police of acting hastily to pin the entire crime on the driver without completion of the investigation. Yadav reminded that as many as two executive officers were killed in Bihar ever since Samrat Choudhary took charge as the chief minister of the state. Notably, another EO was killed in Bhagalpur in April last. What began as a murder in a secluded area under Barun police station of Aurangabad district quickly turned into a confrontation between the ruling NDA and Mahagathbandhan, after allegations were levelled on Dehri MLA Rajeev Ranjan Singh by Babita Kumari. Tejashwi blamed Choudhary for misplaced priorities and said the CM was busy attending a private show but didn't meet the bereaved family members of the EO. Meanwhile, Congress demanded that security of government officials was a major concern. Congress spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari said that fresh investigations were needed into the corruption charges levelled by the victim's widow. Dehri MLA Rajeev Ranjan Singh claimed his innocence in the case and told HT that he used to talk to EO Vimal Kumar for official purposes. "I have nothing to do with this case," he said. MLA Singh said Babita Kumari, the widow, accused driver Mithilesh Kumar in her written complaint based on which an FIR was registered. The MLA further said that the accused driver confessed to his involvement after he was arrested. BJP lambasted Tejashwi for leveraging the issue for political gains. BJP national spokesperson Guru Prakash Paswan claimed that law and order is the topmost priority of the NDA. He further said that swift and decisive investigation will ensure justice. Vikas Vaibhav, Inspector General of Police (IG), Magadh, told HT teams from FSL were pressed into service for collections of forensic inputs. Talking about the investigation, Vaibhav said that the case was under investigation and a SIT was constituted under SP, Aurangabad, to investigate the case from all angles.
