Six girl students fall ill after 'lizard found in dinner' at govt school in E Champaran
BETTIAH, July 16 -- Six girls fell ill and 37 others were kept under medical observation after a lizard was allegedly found in the dinner served at a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Chhatrawas in Bihar's East Champaran district, officials said on Wednesday.
Dr Anil Kumar Kanchan, in-charge of public health centre (PHC), Sangrampur, said around 43 students at the hostel had to be kept under medical observation as six students complained of uneasiness on Tuesday night after consuming their meal.
"Some students had complained of stomach ache and nausea. Of the six, two were discharged after treatment while four others had to be referred to Sadar Hospital at Motihari for advanced care after they complained of chest pain," Kanchan said.
"Around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, we ate dinner served after which some students began retching and there was complete chaos in the hostel. In the melee, some students complained of giddiness and stomach ache," said one of the students.
"The girls were served chaptis and potato curry. After many fell sick, we took no chances and rushed 43 students to the hospital. Of them, 37 were brought back to the hostel," Nidhi Kumari, a teacher who is also warden in-charge of the hostel, said.
"We noticed that the taste of the food was unusual. While eating dinner, we spotted something in the potato gravy. Later, we found a lizard on our platter," said Shilpi Kumari, 13, a student undergoing treatment at the health facility on Wednesday.
Areraj SDM Anjali Sharma said, "Preliminary investigation revealed that a complaint regarding the presence of a lizard in the meal was received. The matter is being probed and appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible."...
