Sita Mata Circuit takes shape in Pauri Garhwal
Haridwar, June 15 -- An ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Sita in Phalswadi village of Pauri Garhwal district is being developed under the proposed Sita Mata Circuit project to promote religious tourism and transform the area into a year-round pilgrimage and heritage destination. Located in the Sitosyun region of Kot block, the temple is associated with local beliefs and mythological traditions that identify the site as the place where Goddess Sita, the wife of Lord Ram, is believed to have taken 'bhu samadhi'.
The temple holds deep religious significance for residents of the region, who revere Sita as a local deity and protector. Every year, villagers organise a three-day fair in May in her honour, attracting devotees from surrounding areas.
Pauri Garhwal DM Swati S Bhadauria, who recently visited the temple along with officials from the archaeology, tourism and revenue departments, architects and local representatives, said the shrine was being developed as part of a broader religious heritage circuit. "The Sita temple holds immense significance as it is one of the few temples solely dedicated to Goddess Sita. Under the proposed circuit, nearby temples dedicated to Shri Raghunath, Lakshman and Maharishi Valmiki will also be linked," Bhadauria said.
She added that the project envisages development of an open corridor, visitor amenities designed in traditional hill architecture, an approach road, parking facilities, an entrance gate, waiting areas and seating spaces....
