Seven arrested for gambling in two separate raids in Nainital
Haldwani, Oct. 13 -- In two separate incidents, Nainital police arrested seven people for allegedly gambling in public places in the Haldwani area of Nainital district, officials said. The action comes as part of a district-wide crackdown ordered ahead of the Diwali festival.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nainital, Prahlad Narayan Meena, said on Sunday strict instructions have been issued to all subordinate officers to take firm action against illegal gambling and drug trafficking during the festive season. "The aim is to ensure peace and public safety during Diwali by curbing such unlawful activities," he said. He said a team conducted a raid and arrested four men allegedly involved in gambling in a public place on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as Aamir, Jishan Raza, Salim Ahmed, and Vikal Kumar.
A case has been registered against them under Section 13G of the Gambling Act at the Haldwani Police Station, he said.
The SSP said in another operation, a police team from Banbhulpura Police Station arrested three people found gambling with playing cards in the parking area near the railway station on Saturday....
