Set up centres to hold illegal immigrants: WB cm to officials
Kolkata, May 25 -- West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari has directed all district magistrates in the state to establish "holding centres" for apprehended illegal immigrants ahead of their deportation - a step that appeared to give administrative shape to its electoral promise to "detect, delete and deport" all infiltrators.
The Foreigners' Branch and SAARC Visa Section of the state home department, headed by Adhikari, issued the order on Saturday directing districts to set up such centres in line with a May 2025 directive of the Union home ministry.
"Enclosed please find the letter under reference regarding the procedure to be followed for deportation of Bangladeshis/Rohingyas apprehended for staying illegally in this country," said the state government's order to district magistrates, according to a copy of the order accessed by Hindustan Times....
