Jamshedpur, June 22 -- Tatanagar (Jamshedpur) station is poised for a major infrastructure development in respect of maintenance and expansion of coaching depot for Vande Bharat Express trains and such high speed next generation trains with the Chakradharpur Division of the South Eastern Railway (SER) sending it's Rs.383.78 crore detailed project reports (DPR) to the Railway Board for its approval, people close to the development said on Sunday. This has been revealed by the SER in response to a Right to Information (RTI) application by the Shashank Shekhar Swai, a Jamshedpur-based member of the Railway Passenger Committee (RPC). According to the DPR, the existing coaching depot at the Taranagar Railway Station will be shifted to a new location in the Loco Colony area. And, a high-tech new facility will be developed for handling maintenance, inspection and technical testing of Vande Bharat Express trains and such high-speed next generation trains. The SER officials have said in the RTI reply that the state-of-the-art coaching depot will significantly improve operational efficiency and ensure timely maintenance of semi-high speed trains operating in the region. "Taranagar has emerged as an important hub for Vande Bharat train services in Eastern India. Currently, the Tata-Patna and the Tata-Brahmapur Vande Bharat Express trains originate from Taranagar Station. Besides, the Ranchi-Howrah and Rourkela-Howrah Vande Bharat Express trains run through Taranagar daily. The proposed modern coaching depot is expected to support the increasing number of Vande Bharat services and future requirements for next generation high-speed trains and strengthen the station's role in the railway network," the SER officials have stated in their reply. The railway officials say that the project will substantially enhance the capabilities of the Taranagar Station and create opportunities for the introduction of more Vande Bharat Express trains and other high-speed trains connecting Jamshedpur with all major cities in the country. "This coaching depot is expected to reduce dependency on other rail depots and improve the turnaround time for train sets operating in the region," the officials have said. Apart from boosting railway infrastructure, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute in technical skill development. "The construction and operation of the high-tech depot will require skilled manpower and support services, leading to a positive economic impact on the local community. The tendering process for the project and work on ground will commence immediately after the administrative and financial approval of the Railway Board. This project will go a long way in establishing Taranagar Station as one of the major rail maintenance centre in the Eastern India," the RTI reply stated....
