PATNA, July 4 -- The Bihar government on Friday appointed 446 senior resident doctors and tutors across government medical colleges and hospitals to strengthen specialist healthcare services and medical education in the state, according to a press release by health department. The appointments, made under Bihar Medical Education Service Rules on the recommendation of Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board, will be for a three-year tenure. The doctors have been posted in government medical colleges and hospitals across Patna, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Pawapuri, Purnea, Bettiah, Chhapra, Samastipur and Madhepura. The recruits include specialists in anaesthesiology, biochemistry, dentistry, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR), among other disciplines. The government said the appointments would improve access to specialist treatment, enhance patient care and strengthen medical teaching and training. The health department said the posting process was carried out transparently after obtaining doctors' preferences, while balancing administrative requirements and public interest. Doctors with disabilities were posted at locations close to their preferred places, wherever possible. The statement quoting Bihar health minister Nishant Kumar said the appointments would improve functioning of government medical colleges and hospitals and enable patients to access better specialist care closer to home.
