PATNA, Aug. 14 -- Bihar chief minister Samrat Choudhary has directed all BJP ministers in his cabinet to keep a close watch on the functioning of their departments to ensure that no scams emerge that could embarrass the government, according to sources privy to a review meeting held at the Lok Sewak Awas, the CM's residence, late on Wednesday evening. The chief minister asked ministers to closely monitor projects approved by the state cabinet and guard against corruption and malpractice in their respective departments, people familiar with the matter said, warning that any lapses would reflect poorly on the state government. The recent outcome of the Bankipur bypoll, won by Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor, also figured in the discussions, sources said. The seat, the home constituency of BJP national president Nitin Nabin, had been considered a BJP bastion that the party had not lost in three decades. Against this backdrop, the chief minister asked ministers to remain extra vigilant and guard against corruption and wrongdoing. According to reports, Choudhary held the review meeting with all BJP ministers late on Wednesday evening at Lok Sewak Awas, going through each minister's departmental functioning and seeking detailed updates on key projects and schemes.
