Haridwar, Oct. 13 -- The Haridwar police on Sunday cracked a theft case in Jwalapur with the arrest of a domestic help and recovery of Rs.6.24 lakh in stolen cash along with gold and silver ornaments from her possession, police said. According to police, the accused, identified as Shashi Devi (42), a resident of Bilari in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh, was currently residing in the Raja Garden area of Haridwar. She was arrested late Saturday night from her rented accommodation by a police team following an intensive investigation. House owner Manish Chauhan, a resident of Mohalla Chauhanan, had on October 8 lodged a complaint alleging that his domestic help had stolen Rs.8.30 lakh in cash along with one gold ring, a silver anklet, and four silver toe-rings from his residence. "During investigation, police examined several CCTV footage clips showing the maid entering and leaving the house. Surveillance around the locality helped us trace her location to the Kankhal area. A raid was subsequently conducted, leading to the recovery of Rs.2.77 lakh in cash, a gold chain, and silver ornaments from her room. The accused had hidden the remaining cash underground near her accommodation," said Jwalapur Sub-Inspector Khemendra Gangwar, who led the investigation.
