PATNA, May 11 -- Bihar's principal Opposition party, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has begun an organisational overhaul, with plans to restructure state, district and block level committees. The party is collecting feedback from grassroots cadres and supporters to constitute new teams and panel heads, said party insiders, adding that all district and block heads of the party are likely to be replaced by new faces. RJD insiders said the party will have all inputs by the end of this month and organisational appointments will be made based on evaluating these inputs. Besides, party insiders said, RJD's working president, Tejashwi Yadav, may embark on another state-wide yatra to substantiate feedback about the party and its leadership from the ground. The reconstitution of the state, district and block-level committees is long overdue and was kept on hold due to assembly polls in the state last November. The party's drubbing in the elections made it more urgent that the party undergoes a revamp. Organisational polls in the RJD were held in June and July last year in which veteran leader Mangani Lal Mandal was elected state president replacing former minister Jagdanand Singh. RJD chief Lalu Prasad was also elected for the 13th term in the organisational polls last year. "Right now, the old state committees are functioning and have not been reconstituted since the appointment of the state president last year. So, the exercise has begun now and it will be completed within the next few weeks," said a senior party leader, seeking anonymity. Insiders in the party said the new incumbents to various organisational posts at the state, district and block levels would also be appointed based on their performance in the last assembly polls and those found slack would be dropped. "We are keen on putting up a new team that is dedicated and full of loyal leaders, especially those who have made their mark with their leadership skills in the party," said another RJD leader. He said several district presidents were found to have been slack in the last assembly polls, which is why the party fared poorly in the 2025 assembly polls. In the organisational revamp, all district and block presidents would be changed, and there would also be a new set of members in state-level committee headed by the state president. Sources said the party may also focus more on roping in a higher number of party workers from non-Yadav OBC castes and EBCs, the two sections aggressively wooed by the NDA in the past few years. Besides, party workers from Muslim community may also get a good share in the organisational revamp, sources said. RJD's national general secretary, RJD Bhola Yadav, said the focus is on bringing in new, energetic faces who connect with grassroots workers instead of those who entered the party just to get tickets. "We have received feedback from the districts that many newcomers given big roles were more keen on getting tickets and did not perform in strengthening the organisation at the local level, whether at the block or district level. They would be dropped," he said. In the 2025 assembly polls held in October-November, the RJD managed to win only 25 seats despite contesting 144 seats in alliance with Congress and left parties. However, the party managed to keep its voteshare intact at 23%, giving it hope that it still has support on the ground. State RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan said the RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Prasad Yadav have already been authorised to reconstitute the state, district and block-level committees and the exercise is expected to be completed this month. It will happen soon, he added....
