RJD activist detained for alleged offensive post against PM Modi
PATNA, Sept. 19 -- An RJD activist, Junaid Makbur, was taken into custody on Friday for allegedly sharing an offensive social media post against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, police said.
Authorities also seized the mobile phone used in the incident. According to police, following a formal complaint and preliminary digital investigation, officers from the Kasim Bazaar police station detained Makbur from his residence in Bellan Bazaar.
Police further said the matter is related to a Facebook post uploaded during Modi's birthday.
A post containing an allegedly offensive comment along with a picture of the Prime Minister was shared on social media. Police stated that an preliminary investigation into the matter was ordered while using digital evidence and subsequently RJD Mahanagar president Junaid Makbur was detained. The police are now trying to find out who was the original creator of this post and in which groups it has been forwarded.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Jain, a member of the BJP Minority Commission, said that some people had sent the Facebook posts to him. Subsequently, he forwarded the post to the Munger Superintendent of Police Syed Imran Masood, after which the police took action, registered an FIR and took him into custody. Rajesh Jain said that political opposition is legitimate, but offensive language should not be used against anyone. He added that opposition leaders have also wished Modi on his birthday, and the police's action in this matter has been carried out under the proper procedure.
The Munger police have appealed to not share any kind of objectionable content disturbing peace on the social media, otherwise strict legal action will be taken.
