Rivers passing in full spate through Champaran region
BETTIAH, July 15 -- At least two SUVs veered off the road and plunged into roadside trenches along NH-27 in East Champaran district as incessant rain in the Champaran region and neighbouring Nepal led to a steady rise in the water levels of rivers flowing through the area, triggering concerns over flooding and road safety.
In East Champaran's Sangrampur block, while a large number of villagers belonging to Puchhariya Babu Tola, Ramana Dhala,(in Purvi Sangrampur panchayat), Puchhariya Nawkatola, Pucchariya Tiwari Tola, Nawaka Tola Dhala and Mangalpur Dhala (in Dakshiki Barirariya) are watchful following the heavy discharge of 2.03 lakh cusecs from Valmikinagar barrage on Tuesday evening.
"You never know how things would pan out in next few hours the way the water level in the river is rising. We are watchful," said Arun Kumar, a resident of Pucchariya Tiwari Tola in Sangrampur block.
In West Champaran, Piprasi's circle officer Shashikant Yadav said the situation was under control. "We are keeping a close tab," he said.
On Monday late evening, two SUVs fell into rain water filled trench on NH-27 near bus stand in Motihari after the driver of the vehicles misjudged while overtaking other vehicle. "No one was hurt in the incident," said Amit Kumar, SHO, Chhatauni police station....
