Rishu Shree sent on SVU remand for 5 days
PATNA, June 17 -- Rishu Ranjan Sinha alias Rishu Shree - the contractor who lured willing Bihar bureaucracy into his smart trap, and was booked on charges of acting as a middleman and charging commissions on total tender values to facilitate awarding of Bihar government contracts to specific companies, was on Tuesday sent on a five-day remand to the special vigilance unit (SVU).
On May 28, the SVU arrested him from his Mithapur residence here, after Patna High Court on May 18 dismissed his Criminal Writ Miscellaneous petition in connection with Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR). Earlier, Rishu's counsel withdrew a petition on April 18 this year in connection with quashing the FIR registered with SVU against him and his associates.
The special vigilance court here granted the custody, following the SVU's application under Section 187 of BNSS (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita) 2023. SVU counsel, mentioned that custodial interrogation of Rishu Shree was essential "for a fair, complete, and effective investigation". The SVU alleged Rishu acted as a middleman, charging 5-7 per cent commissions on total tender values to facilitate the awarding of contracts to specific companies. The SVU claims to have recovered 61 sale deeds worth over Rs.58 crore and details of international travel sponsored for high-ranking officials.
The SVU officials have prepared over 100 questions for Rishu Shree.
The special vigilance court on Monday had reserved the order while hearing the petition by SVU, who sought seven-day remand. At present, Rishu and close aide Santosh Kumar, along with former chief engineer Tarini Das, joint secretary of finance department Mumukshu Kumar Choudhury and executive engineer Umesh Kumar Singh are lodged in Beur Central jail.
Meanwhile, the special vigilance court is also hearing the anticipatory bail petition (ABP) of IAS officer Sanjeev Hans, also named accused with Rishu Shree. Hans, an additional member of the Board of Revenue, filed ABP to avoid arrest. The court has asked the case diary from SVU and fixed the next date of hearing on June 24.
On Tuesday, when media persons arrived at his office, they found the main door of Hans's chamber locked.
Hans is said to have applied for leave for his father's treatment. However, no official information has been given by the government in this regard yet. Employees sitting outside the chamber are refraining from saying anything. "We are not in a position to say anything. Talk to a senior officer. All we know is that he's not coming."
According to a revenue department official familiar with the matter, Hans has gone on leave. His father is said to be undergoing treatment. Another employee of the Board of Revenue said, "Saheb has not been coming for more than 10 days."...
