Dehradun, Dec. 8 -- The state government on Sunday sent revenue secretary SN Pandey to camp in Pauri Garhwal for two days - Sunday and Monday - amid a surge in human-wildlife conflicts in the region, officials familiar with the matter said. The development came a day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Lansdowne Daleep Rawat threatened to resign over the issue in his assembly constituency. "This is very unfortunate for us. My entire region is adjacent to Corbett National Park. I have said it many times...How are we supposed to live like this? I request the government to issue orders to eliminate the tiger... And ensure such security measures that there is no loss of life or property here," Rawat said. "I have repeatedly raised this issue, but till date no government has taken any concrete steps to frame regulations for the state's hilly areas. If this situation continues, I will be compelled to resign," he added. Later on Saturday evening, the government in a release said: "Taking cognisance of the tragic incidents of local residents being killed or injured in wildlife attacks in Pauri Garhwal district, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed secretary SN Pandey to camp in Pauri district for two days and, in collaboration with the local administration, develop a strategy to protect the public from wildlife." On Saturday, chief minister Dhami chaired a meeting with officials at his camp office, where he expressed concern over the recent incidents of civilians being killed or injured in wildlife attacks within the Himalayan state, the release said.
