RANCHI, Aug. 15 -- One migrant workers migrant worker from Jharkhand has died, while another is trapped in the tunnel collpse in Chamoli, Uttarakhad and efforts are on to bring back the mortal remains of the dead back to the state, official said on Friday. An accident occurred on Thursday evening in the under-construction tunnel of the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project at Mayapur, Pipalkoti (Chamoli district, Uttarakhand), when the tunnel suddenly filled with water and debris and partially collapsed. Officials said that at the time of the accident, 29 workers were inside the tunnel: seven have died, 19 have been safely evacuated, and three remain missing and trapped while rescue operations are underway. A statement issued from the chief minister's office said, upon receiving information about the incident, Chief Minister Hemant Soren took the matter seriously and directed the State Migrant Control Room-operated by the Office of the Labour Commissioner-to take immediate action and ensure inter-state coordination. "Subsequently, helpline numbers for the State Migrant Control Room were made public to ensure that the families and acquaintances of the affected workers from Jharkhand could receive continuous, authentic information regarding their health and status," the statement said. 'Seven workers from Jharkhand affected' A total of seven workers from Jharkhand have been affected by the incident. Among them, Vijay Hansda, a resident of Palsabani village in the Dugariya block of East Singhbhum district, lost his life. "Necessary procedures have been completed in coordination with the company administration and the family to ensure the respectful transport of the deceased's mortal remains to his native village. The mortal remains are being dispatched to his village via ambulance," ," an official said. A total of five workers from Jharkhand were injured in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals. The injured include Habil Guria (from Tapkara, Khunti district), Nithir Bhingra (from Torpa), and Dina Begra (from Surune), all of whom sustained minor injuries. Additionally, Vinod Ravna (from Katkahi, Gumla district) suffered a broken right leg, while Khela Ram Bisra (from Dugaria, East Singhbhum district) is critically injured. All the injured are being provided with prompt and appropriate medical care. "Reports confirm that one of the trapped workers is from Jharkhand; the state government is making continuous efforts to accurately identify him and ensure his safe return. Meanwhile, the company has provided immediate financial assistance to the deceased worker's family for funeral expenses," an official said....
