Agra, Sept. 7 -- A 25-year-old man, who was earlier arrested in a 2022 attempt-to-murder case, was arrested in Mathura on Saturday for allegedly raping a minor girl, police said. According to police, the accused was arrested from Bati Maghera crossing under Jaint police station limits. He was booked under charges of rape, criminal intimidation, the SC/ST Act and the POCSO Act following a complaint that he had allegedly taken the girl to an isolated location and sexually assaulted her. A case was registered at Jaint police station on Friday under Sections 65(1) and 351(3) of the BNS, Section 3(2)(5) of the SC/ST Act and Sections 3 and 4 of POCSO Act, police said. The accused was produced before a court in Mathura on Saturday and sent to judicial custody. Police said the accused had previously been arrested in 2022 in connection with a case involving an assault during a village dispute. He was booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 307 (attempt to murder), and remained in jail for about three years before being released on bail around a year ago.
