PATNA, Aug. 14 -- Bihar State Examination Board (BSEB) on Thursday notified the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) for 2026, opening up significant opportunities for teaching aspirants across the state. BSEB chairman Thiyagrajan S M said online registration for STET 2026 will commence on August 17, 2026. While the exact examination schedule remains to be finalised, officials indicate that the final results will be published ahead of the upcoming Teachers Recruitment Examination (TRE) conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). This strategic coordination between BSEB and BPSC is set to ensure that newly qualified candidates become eligible to participate directly in the subsequent hiring drive without missing critical career milestones. State education minister Mithilesh Tiwari reaffirmed state government's strong commitment to supporting aspiring educators by ensuring the examination timeline aligns smoothly with recruitment notifications. In coordination with BPSC leadership and following approval from Bihar chief minister Samrat Chaudhary, the state government established that candidates clearing this eligibility test will have an immediate pathway to apply for open teaching positions. By bridging the gap between eligibility testing and recruitment notifications, the state aims to maximise opportunities for qualified candidates and streamline the overall hiring framework for public schools. The upcoming examination will cover a broad range of academic disciplines, featuring assessments across dozens of distinct subjects. Paper I includes 16 designated subjects requiring a Bachelor of Education degree following graduation, while Paper II covers 29 subjects for candidates holding both a post-graduate degree and a B.Ed. Candidates, in accordance with their individual academic qualifications, can choose either Paper I or Paper II. Eligible candidates can further opt to appear for both the papers in case they deem fit. Registration fees are structured between Rs.760 and Rs.1,440 depending on candidate categories and whether applicants choose to sit for a single paper or both options. Each examination paper will feature 150 questions carrying one mark each, dividing the content between core subject knowledge and pedagogical principles. Specifically, 100 marks will be dedicated to the candidate's chosen discipline, with the remaining 50 marks assessing teaching methodology and general pedagogy. Qualifying thresholds are established at 50 percent for general merit candidates, 45.5 percent for backward categories, 42.5 percent for Extremely Backward Classes, and 40 percent for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, women, and differently-abled applicants....
