PATNA, July 5 -- Bihar has achieved another historic milestone in the power sector by successfully meeting the highest-ever peak power demand of 9,350 MW at 8:28pm on Saturday, said a press release issued by the energy department. on Saturday. Despite this record demand, consumers across the state continued to receive uninterrupted and high-quality electricity supply. Officials said this achievement is the direct result of the state government's sustained efforts to strengthen transmission and distribution infrastructure, enhance grid capacity, and adopt modern technologies. Electricity demand has increased significantly across domestic, industrial, urban, and agricultural sectors. The establishment of new industries, urban expansion, growth in commercial activities, and increasing use of electricity-powered irrigation systems have led to a steady rise in power consumption. At the same time, improved electrification and better living standards in rural areas have contributed to a substantial increase in household electricity usage. Bihar's electricity demand has consistently reached new highs. A decade ago, the state's peak demand was around 1,800 MW, on Saturday it reached 9,350 MW. What was once an annual peak is now being surpassed multiple times a year. Despite this sharp increase, the state's power system has continued to successfully manage rising demand without any major disruption, demonstrating the strength and resilience of Bihar's electricity network. The capacity of transmission lines, grid substations, power transformers, and the distribution network has been continuously enhanced across the state. Advanced real-time monitoring, efficient load management, and continuous technical supervision ensure grid stability even during periods of maximum demand. As a result, consumers continue to receive uninterrupted electricity despite steadily increasing power consumption. The energy department and the state power utilities maintain round-the-clock monitoring of the entire power system. Potential technical challenges are assessed in advance, and necessary preventive measures are implemented proactively. For consumer convenience, the 1912 electricity helpline and Fuse Call Centres operating across the state remain active round the clock, ensuring prompt registration and timely resolution of consumer complaints. Bihar's energy minister Shailesh Kumar alias Bulo Mandal said the increasing demand for electricity is a clear reflection of Bihar's rapid and inclusive development. He stated that Bihar is setting new benchmarks in the power sector and showing a new direction to the country. The Government remains fully committed to providing uninterrupted and quality electricity to every consumer, and the energy department continues to work tirelessly towards this objective, the statement said. Ajay Yadav, energy secretary and chairman-cum-managing director, Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), said the transmission and distribution network is being continuously expanded and modernised to meet the state's growing electricity demand. He added that technology-driven grid management, capacity augmentation, and real-time monitoring have enabled Bihar to consistently and successfully meet record peak power demand. He further stated that the consumer grievance redressal mechanism has also been strengthened to ensure faster and more efficient services for electricity consumers, the statement added....
