Rafting in Ganga to Resume after Monsoon recedes
Haridwar, Sept. 14 -- River rafting and adventure sports activities in Ganga will resume only after withdrawal of monsoon from Garhwal region and subsequently clearance given by a joint survey commitee, officials in the know said.
Rafting activities were closed with advent of monsoon season in and around Rishikesh and river bed stretch of Pauri and Tehri Garhwal from Kaudiyala, Shivpuri, Boat house, Lakshman Jhula to Muni-ki-Reti since June 24 earlier this year. Rafting operators have been demanding timely opening of rafting season but authorities are in no hurry to endanger safety of tourists.
"When water level of Ganga will be below 337.60 metre and monsoon will be retreating, a joint committee will then first inspect and submit its recommendations. Based on the recommendation from higher authorities and government level final decision on green signal to rafting will be made. Safety of rafting tourists and people involved in adventure sports is of paramount importance," said district adventure sports officer Tehri Garhwal, Jaspal Singh Chauhan.
