Dhanbad, July 4 -- A day after launching a citywide anti-encroachment drive to ease traffic congestion, Giridih municipal corporation on Friday demolished alleged illegal portions of a three-storey commercial building near Ambedkar Chowk on Bus Stand Road in Mobile Gali area for violating building bye-laws.
On Thursday, the civic body removed roadside encroachments from Ambedkar Chowk to Tower Chowk, Court Road, Zila Parishad Chowk and Kalibari Chowk. Street vendors and footpath shopkeepers were cleared from the roadsides, fines were imposed on several encroachers, goods were seized, and traffic police issued challans to illegally parked vehicles. Authorities also warned that legal action would be taken against those who reoccupied the cleared areas.
Continuing its enforcement drive, the corporation on Friday began demolishing the unauthorised portions of the commercial building amid heavy police force and barricades.
Municipal officials said the building owner was among 11 property owners who had been served repeated notices for allegedly violating building regulations. They were directed to remove the unauthorised portions within the stipulated time....
