Police arrest 9 within 8 hrs of gang rape in J'khand's Mander
RANCHI, June 8 -- In a swift and decisive overnight operation, Ranchi Police arrested eight men and detained a juvenile within eight hours of a gang rape being reported in Mander police station area.
A police official close to the matter said the crime occurred on Friday night along the banks of Karge River.
The 19-year-old victim, who resides in Karge village, had returned home that evening following an excursion to the Rock Garden in Ranchi. Around 7PM, while she was sitting in an orchard near her home, a group of youths ambushed and forcibly dragged her away. The perpetrators took her to the riverbank, where she was repeatedly gang raped and held captive throughout the night. The attackers finally released her on Saturday morning. After reaching home, she informed her family and subsequently filed a written complaint with her father at Mandar police station," the police official said.
Following the formal complaint on Saturday evening, the police official said, authorities immediately registered an FIR at Mandar police station under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A press statement issued after the breakthrough informed that senior officials, including SSP Rakesh Ranjan and SP(Rural) Ranchi, Gaurav Goswami coordinated an immediate emergency response. A specialised task force was formed under Ram Narayan Choudhary, DySP Khilari.
"The team mobilised SHOs and personnel from four local police stations: Mander, Chanho, Budhmu, and Thakurgaon. While the victim was rushed to Sadar Hospital in Ranchi for medical examination and care, the specialised team simultaneously raided multiple locations. Within eight hours of launching the operation, police successfully tracked down and apprehended all nine suspects," the press statement reads.
The arrested individuals were identified as:Ayush Oraon (22), Prakash Munda alias Papad Munda (19), Ramlus Kujur (23), Ranjeet Oraon (24)Umesh Bhagat (23), Deepak Oraon (19), Ram Oraon (19), Vikas Oraon (23) and a 15-year-old juvenile (detained).
Ranchi Police confirmed that further investigations were actively underway to secure the evidence. Police intend to rapidly complete the remaining legal formalities and file a formal charge sheet....
