PATNA, July 27 -- At least 500 protesters were arrested till Sunday evening for participating in protests and on the charges of creating troubles in the state during the Bihar bandh called by All India Students Association (AISA) and other Left-wing student organisations on Saturday. The bandh was called for demanding the resignation of former Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged irregularities in NEET-UG examination. The protests turned violent in around nine districts including Siwan, Saran, Aurangabad, Sitamarhi and Bhagalpur, with reports of clashes and even firing. Around 32 FIRs have been lodged in different police stations as Gandhi Maidan, Sachiwalaya and Kotwali against 300 named persons and 2,000 unknown persons. "A special police team is raiding different areas to trace the agitators involved in attacking the policemen and damaging the government properties, " said an officer. "More than 20 boys were brought to Juvenile Justice Board, Gaighat Patna under various sections of the BNS and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. All the minors were accused of attacking police officers, attempting to murder and obstructing government works," said an officer. Meanwhile, Siwan police took at least 61 persons into custody. Life returned to normal in Siwan following the violent incidents that took place during the Bihar bandh. The district administration and police conducted a flag march through the city with tight security arrangements in place. Residents were relieved as markets have reopened and traffic and internet was restored. District Magistrate Vivek Ranjan Maitrey and SP Purnam Kumar Jha, conducted the flag march along the city main thoroughfares. In sensitive areas, officials personally visited the spots to assess the situation and appealed to the public to maintain peace and harmony. During the disturbances on Saturday, police detained 61 people who were sent to Maharajganj late on Saturday. Additionally, police forces were called into the district that very night so that they could be deployed without delay if needed. Several persons were also arrested in Saran, Sitamarhi, Samastipur, Nawada, Nalanda, Begusarai, Munger and other districts....
