Notorious criminal held after encounter
PATNA, May 27 -- A criminal carrying a reward of Rs.50,000 on his head was injured in an exchange of fire with the STF at Sukhay Basa village under Beldaur police station limits in Bihar's Khagaria district after he allegedly tried to escape from their custody early on Tuesday, police said.
Police said the incident took place at 1.30 am when a joint team of Bihar STF and Khagaria police was conducting raids in search of wanted criminals. During the operation, police spotted Mohammad Buddin Miyan.
An exchange of fire ensued during which Miyan sustained injuries. He was shifted to Khagaria sadar hospital under heavy security. Police seized a country-made rifle, pistol, 11 live cartridges, three empty cartridges and a cell phone from him.
"Cases of murder, robbery, extortion and arms-related offences, are registered against him at multiple police stations, including Beldaur and Pasraha," an officer said, adding he had been on the radar for long and he kept evading arrest.
The operation was conducted based on intelligence and now raids are underway to trace Miyan's accomplices, police said.
Khagaria SP Rakesh Kumar said, "Miyan is a native of Jholi Panchayat under the jurisdiction of Beldaur police station. Miyan was wanted in several cases." Notably, this is the 12th encounter in the 41-day tenure of the Samrat Choudhary-led NDA government in Bihar....
