New Delhi, Nov. 14 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Jharkhand government to notify the Saranda wildlife sanctuary across an area of over 31,000 hectares of forest land in the state, making it the first case in which a sanctuary has been declared through a court order.
The court granted three months to issue the notification extending to 31,468.25 hectares of forested habitat, home to some of the finest Sal trees in the world, as well as a variety of flora and fauna. To allay apprehensions among the tribal population and forest dwellers living there, the court protected all schools, dispensaries, roads, and railway lines, directing the state government to give adequate publicity to this fact....
