NEW DELHI, July 2 -- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over probe into the petrol bomb attack at the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh state office in Ranchi's Nirvanpur area on the intervening night of June 16 and 17, with officials suspecting the role of Pakistan based ISI-backed narco-terrorist Shahzad Bhatti in the conspiracy, people familiar with the development said. The federal agency has registered a first information report (FIR) under terror charges on the orders of the ministry of home affairs (MHA), which says the agency needs to unearth national ramifications and a larger conspiracy behind the attack. Unknown persons had hurled petrol bombs at RSS office under the Chutia police station area of Ranchi on June 16/17 night. One bomb landed on the roof of the building and caused a fire, while another fell near the entrance but no damage was done. Nobody was injured in the incident. Two suspects - Saif Ansari and Aman Ansari, were arrested from a railway station when they were trying to flee while a third person - Sayam Sujan was caught later. Officials said that the NIA is interrogating the three suspects to get more leads on their online handler and others involved in the conspiracy. Preliminary intelligence assessment is that one of the arrested persons had stayed in Dubai for about six months during which he came in contact with the network of Shahzad Bhatti, a Pakistani gangster-terrorist and was most likely currently in touch with a handler called 'Rana Sahab'. Bhatti has emerged as a key figure in several investigations related to terror attacks, drugs smuggling, other organised crimes and radicalisation of youngsters in India in the past couple of years. Backed by ISI, he is behind active narco-terrorism incidents in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab as well. He is learnt to have created an outfit named Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) for anti-India activities and runs his operations from Pakistan and Dubai. Last month only, NIA carried out raids at 18 locations in Haryana and Punjab in connection with three cases linked to Bhatti's network. According to the intelligence officials, the March 2025 grenade attack at the residence of social media influencer Roger Sandhu in Jalandhar, Punjab, has been linked to Shahzad Bhatti. Bhatti had also masterminded the November 2025 explosion at the Women Police Station, Sirsa, Haryana and the January 2026 blast at Baldev Nagar police station in Ambala, Haryana....
