PATNA, June 7 -- A joint team of Bihar STF and Muzaffarpur police arrested two accused, including one for allegedly providing shelter and logistical support to killers of sharp shooter Govind Sharma in Icon Tower Apartment on May 31. Both were allegedly trying to leave Bihar, officers said on Saturday. According to police, the accused who provided shelter was identified as Shourabh Kumar and he was arrested from Raxaul (near Indo-Nepal border) while the mastermind in this case, Ravikant alias Babul Choudhary, was arrested near Darbhanga Airport. Both arrests were made late Friday. Muzaffarpur SSP Kantesh Mishra said Choudhary had been missing since the murder and was actively being looked for. Meanwhile, Kumar is the person who rented a flat for providing accommodation to the killers. Kumar had been keeping an eye on Sharma for the last one week. Police said the motive was an old enmity between Sharma and Choudhary over two properties- 15 kattha land located near Kalambagh Chowk and three kattha land located in Mithunpura. Besides, they clashed over a contract within the University of Bihar (BRABU). During interrogation, mastermind Choudhary allegedly confessed that he wanted to shoot Sharma and was fully prepared. However, even before he reached the scene, Kumar opened fire and gunned down Sharma in Muzaffarpur. "An FIR was registered against Onkar Singh and others at Town police station on June 1 based on the statement of Sharma's wife, Anjali Kumari. Singh has been arrested by a SIT," said Muzaffarpur SSP, adding that Singh and Sharma had jointly executed three major crimes. The three cases include the 2018 murder of former Muzaffarpur mayor Samir Kumar, the 2023 killing of property dealer Ashutosh Shahi, and a 2022 extortion demand of Rs 50 lakh from another property dealer. Sharma was a co-accused in all three cases. An audio clip, purportedly of accused Choudhary claiming responsibility, has surfaced on social media.
